Trivia
- This episode's production number is 201X-00, implying that this is a season 1 episode with a production number lower than Car (which has a production number of 201X-01).
- This episode originally replaced Car (and became known as Car version 2) and ended after Joel's line about "doing what I love best," and ends immediately with Joel hanging himself. The segment with Elly, Brad, and June was added a week later, and became Car version 3. By hanging himself, Joel erased Bonus Stage from existence, and all of the episodes were taken out of the episode guide (except this one and Bonus Stages). Forum-goers reacted by telling Matt to at least keep the episodes up for a new generation of fans to watch. Shortly after, Car was updated again, and the episode guide returned to normal.
- In the scene where Joel is about to hang himself, he is in his Season 7 design with his Season 1 hair (Which is as long as his Season 7 hair and has more strands in this scene only).
- At about the same time Car v.3 was released, forum member TKeely4777 offered Matt Wilson a paid commission for a half-hour Bonus Stage finale. The original proposal of a half-hour special soon turned into a full eighth season, which was to start sometime on or after April 2006. But the offer fell through, and only one more episode was made: The FAT of the LAN.
- As with any series finale, this has gotten mixed reviews from various fans, mostly out of shock that Bonus Stage was ending earlier than expected (at least 100 episodes were planned at one point). We leave you with Matt's own comments on the episode: "I like the way BS ended though, it's appropriate to how the show is written and made people react in a way that they wouldn't have if it ended all rosey and everyone falls in love as the sun sets and the magical peppermint unicorns come down from the sky to vomit happy juice on everyone."

Goofs
- In Car version 2, the music for the opening credits begins before the file is finished loading. Also in the same version, the wrong font is used for the "High Score's" part of the Bonus Stage logo; presumably by the time this version of the .swf was compiled Matt no longer had the original font on his computer. Likewise, the font used for the end credits has changed.

Inside References
- Brad's mention that Joel and Phil might live in a volcano might be a reference to the Easter egg in Flame Wars, where Joel wondered if what would happen in Bonus Stage in 2007.
- "Now what do you clowns of buttocks want?" Joel says this in the style of Stomach King's voice. His pronunciation of "buttocks" may also be reminiscent of the film Forrest Gump.
- The Choco-Taco Time device is reminiscent of the Deus Ex Wonderball used in High Score 3.

Real-World References
- The episode title comes from the mix up of the words, "Mission Failed". It's also somewhat reminiscent of the video game Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, where near the end of the game as Raiden and Solid Snake are fighting tengu soldiers, it will randomly make a false game over screen that reads "Fission Mailed".
- When Future Phil says "I've been McFlyed!", it is a reference to the movie Back to the Future, in which Marty McFly has to help his parents-to-be to get a relationship so that he can be born in the future. At one point when it looks like he'll fail, he starts to turn transparent.
- This is the third time the old Bonus Stage Wiki has been referenced. It is also the only time it has been seen as a neutral, if not slightly positive, effect of Bonus Stage. Once again, though, Matt pronounces it "Wee-kee" rather than "Wick-ee."
- Choco Taco is a vanilla ice cream treat with chocolate, nuts and fudge in a taco-like waffle cone shell.
- When all the characters are laughing it is a reference to Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law.
- Even Stevens was a TV Show on Disney Channel.
- "Think of time as a string..." This theory could come from Time Squad. It could also possibly be a reference to an episode of Quantum Leap, where Dr. Samuel Becket meets up with an elderly TV host who has invented a time machine. He (Becket) explains his theory about how time is like a piece of string, and if you were to bunch it all up you could then move from one point on the string to another where the string touches.
- "My hot meat jam" is from the pilot episode of the Powerpuff Girls, where Fuzzy Lumpkins takes revenge against the girls, who were the judges of a jam contest that gave his "meat jam" last place. He then made a ray gun that turned stuff to meat.
- The mention of a comic foil could be a reference to the appearance of Joel Dawson and Phil Argus on a list of popular double acts on the Wikipedia page of double acts. Matt Wilson has been known to satire wikis on multiple occasions, such as in The Terror From Beyond Imageshack.
