Malcolm is a one of Joel's many robot creations. Malcolm stands for Machine Automated Leadership... colm. When Joel decides to go explore the hidden underground tunnel in the Research Facility, he puts Malcolm in charge.

Malcolm was supposed to star (along with Soupstock, another robot, and Kate Dawson, Joel's sister) in a High Score spin-off that would've lasted 6 20-minute episodes combining "The Big O" and "Sam and Max" antics.

There were speculations that Malcolm would appear in a more full cameo in Joel's Substitute but due to Matt's ability to tick fans off like that, he only got a 1 second cameo, even though the episode header says 10 seconds.

It was revealed in Joel Fights Crime, Phil Rewrites Time, that Malcolm was the one in the Evil costume. Joel then melted his face with a blowtorch as punishment. However, Matt later revealed that this was all a plot devised by Cassidy to get Elly off the show.
