Reasons for this wiki

After trying all kinds of things to create a knitting web page, this method appealed to me for several reasons.

1. I like using Wikipedia.
2. I want to learn how to use Wikipedia better.
3. I want to make a knitting manual of sorts, and Wikipedia does not like being a knitting manual. Wikipedia doesn't like original work.
4. I want a place to put ideas about knitting.
5. I want a place for other people to put their ideas about knitting.
6. I want people to be able to criticize and improve my ideas.
7. I want to help create the kind of knitting reference I would like to see.
8. I'm a better editor than writer.
9. I like that it's free.

Purpose of this wiki

Of course, my idea of this wiki may not be your idea. However, I'd like this wiki to be:

1. A focus on knitting technique.
2. An exploration of the knitted fabric.
3. A place to boldly go where no knitter has gone before.

Other optional things to do

• Control the rights of anonymous and logged in users through the Control Panel (which can be found in the toolbox on the left side of this page).
• Add the url for your wiki to the Categorized wiki list. Simply edit that page and put your wiki under the appropriate category.
• To increase the amount of space you have for uploads, add links to http://editthis.info from external sites, and go to the Link Quota Page to increase your uploads quota.
• Edit MediaWiki:Sidebar to change the navigation menu

• If you are feeling adventurous and know a little about web design you can edit the javascript and css to the Header to change the look of your wiki.
  • You must log as admin to do this
  • Whatever you enter in this page will be added to the html in the header after the standard style sheet, so you can override styles.
