Upper Falls is an unincorporated populated place in Kanawha County in West Virginia. The community had a population of 1,254 residents in the 2000 Census. Upper Falls is located at the geographic coordinates 38.3428719 north by -81.8442959 west.

Upper Falls of Coal River is a cascading waterfall that bisects the community, giving it its name.

Walhonde was what the Lenape Indians originally called Coal River. Two scenic byways, named Walhonde Trail Byway and Upper Falls Byway, are being planned that will intersect at Upper Falls.

Andrews Heights Elementary School provides primary public education to the community.

Big Bend Golf Course is a par-71 championship golf course located at Upper Falls.

Meadowood Park is situated alongside the Coal River at Upper Falls, offering many recreational opportunities.
